Privacy Policy

HACHI ("we", "us") is an inbox that brings your chats and email together and lets you hand messages to an AI agent you choose. HACHI is operated by Zhenyu Zhong in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what data HACHI handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. Questions: hello@hachi.im.
How HACHI is built
HACHI has two parts. An open-source connector runs on your own Mac and talks to the Beeper app on that Mac (for WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and other chat networks) and, if you connect it, to your Gmail account. A small cloud service relays data between the connector, the HACHI web app and the agents you use. Your chats and emails are read on your Mac and pass through our cloud only while they are being shown to you or handed to an agent. Our cloud does not store chat content, email content or your Google tokens.
Data we collect
- Account data: the identifier and profile details (such as name and email address) from the service you sign in with, and records of the devices you pair.
- Waitlist data: the email address you give us to join the waitlist, and when you joined.
- Message data you access through HACHI: chats from Beeper and, if you connect Gmail, your email messages, threads and labels. This is processed on your Mac and relayed through our cloud in transit. It is not stored by our cloud.
- Limited operational metadata: to make features work while your browser is closed, our cloud keeps encrypted chat identifiers for chats you snooze until the snooze ends, and the status and identifiers of requests you send to an agent. It never keeps message text, chat names or contact names.
- Logs: technical logs and audit records contain metadata only (action name, time, caller, success or error). They never contain message text, chat names, chat identifiers or attachments.
Google user data
If you connect Gmail, HACHI asks Google for permission to read, compose, send and modify your email (the gmail.modify scope) and for your basic profile (openid, email). We use this access only to:
- show your Gmail threads in your HACHI inbox alongside your chats;
- let you reply, archive, mark as read and send drafts you approve;
- hand a specific email to an AI agent when you ask HACHI to, so the agent can draft a reply for you to approve.
Your Google access token is stored only on your Mac, inside the connector. Our cloud does not store it.
HACHI's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We use Google user data only to provide and improve the user-facing features described above.
- We transfer Google user data to others only when needed to provide those features (for example, to the agent you choose when you hand it a message), to comply with law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with notice to you.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
- We do not allow humans to read Google user data unless you give us explicit permission for specific messages, it is needed for security purposes such as investigating abuse, or it is required by law.
- We do not use Google user data to train or improve general artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
AI agents and other services
When you hand a message to an agent, the content you choose to hand off is sent to that agent (for example, an agent on Raft) and to the AI model provider that agent uses. Their handling is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. HACHI may also send short excerpts from your Mac directly to a noise-filtering service to sort low-priority conversations; these excerpts do not pass through or stay in our cloud. Beeper's handling of your chat networks is governed by Beeper's own policy.
How we use data
We use data only to run HACHI: to show your inbox, carry out the actions you ask for, keep the service secure, and contact you about your account or the waitlist. We do not sell personal data and do not use it for advertising.
Storage and security
Our cloud runs on Cloudflare. Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Stored identifiers for snoozed chats are encrypted with AES-GCM. Account and waitlist records are kept in a Cloudflare database.
Retention and deletion
- Snooze and agent-request metadata is deleted when the snooze ends or the request finishes.
- Account records are kept while your account is active. Waitlist emails are kept until you get access or ask us to remove them.
- You can disconnect Gmail at any time in HACHI's settings, which deletes the token from your Mac, and revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Uninstalling the connector removes its local data.
- To delete your account or waitlist entry, email hello@hachi.im. We delete it within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, or withdraw consent, by emailing hello@hachi.im. Depending on where you live (for example under Canada's PIPEDA or the EU GDPR), you may have further rights, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.
Children
HACHI is not for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in the app.
